may have over done the voltage.

I had a small Crack in my seat bracket. so I cleaned off the rust with a wire wheel. grounded the bracket and touched it with my flux core welder. I now have a hole the size of a dime.
I put it to the minimum voltage and the hole is now the size of a quarter. I guess I will have to try something different.

yeah. I think the material is pretty corroded and I was hopeful. but I may have to just add a brace to a non corroded area. Most of the seat bracket is fine. So I will make due with making that work.
I am a novice, self taught (youtube) welder at best. so I know I don't have the skill set to do anything fancy.

You can buy welding backing paddles, spatulas, etc to hold behind the weld in order to fill it in.
Made of copper, brass, bronze?
I have used a piece of copper plumbing coupler that I smashed flat to hold behind the hole.
