Honda 200cc Shifter build

I am building a 200cc Shifter kart out of bare metal tubing. Here is the design plan.

Nodroz- AutoCAD 2012 edu version from my school
Flower- Yes 200cc air cooled 16-18hp 14lbs of torque but thinking about trading for a 125cc 2 stroke with 22hp and water cooled.

Nope and What tires should i be using and where can i buy them for a good price? I want them to be racing kart tires.

But If your town has a track were they race Sprintkarts (or Ovalkarts), you could go down into the pits and ask the racers if they have any used tires for sale. Some racers buy a new set every race or 2 and sell their slightly used sets cheap.

Thanks for the info can you look at the add and tell me what you think for a base for a kart? But I'm looking for asphalt kart tires do you have a model name or something?

You seem to have changed your approach? I thought you were going to build your own chassis?

I'm going to start out with that for now and in the fall/winter build it because I don't have the funds atm.

Sounds like a good idea. It will probably give you a good understanding about frame improvements etc for a larger engine and what you would change for when you build your own kart.

Exactly that was my thinking and i was also thinking about later when i make my own frame maybe i make my own gixxer kart. It's basically a extended racing frame with a 1000cc gsxr 4 cylinder engine with a six speed.

IMO, aside from the "cool factor" of having a 1 liter go kart, it's not worth it. Extending the frame and adding that weight will do no good for handling, and the engine will spin the tires all the time. Getting a 250cc engine mounted to the side (like you are building now) will give you more speed than is even close to safe with a homemade kart, and still burn rubber on command. A 1000cc engine would be much better suited to a buggy of some sort; on or off-road.

That said, if you already have the engine, and really like the novelty of it, go for it. Just make sure you put a LOT of thought into it, and don't push your limits too far.

Theres a few gixxer/R1 karts kicking around in the UK, I'd imagine theres a few in the US too. I wouldn't ever build one as mentioned by r97 theres little point with traction, handling and safety factor making you go slower. Again, as r97 mentioned the novelty of it is cool but in reality not so much. My ideal tarmac kart would be a 250/350cc 2 stroke as that would haul. Another thing to factor is that generally tarmac gokart tyres aren't built to carry that much weight at that much speed.

Don't mean to piss on your chips or tell you what to do but so far your initial ideas for your kart were best imo. Get your first build sorted and enjoy it, learn from it and improve from there.
